Dalmatian: 'Saint Joachim's Offering; Meeting at the Golden Gate'
This painting is part of the group: Altarpiece of the Virgin Mary

Explore the paintings

The main body of the altarpiece now consists of a central painting of the Virgin and Child, flanked by four narrative scenes on each side.

The four scenes to the left depict episodes from the story of Saints Joachim and Anne and the Birth of the Virgin. Those on the right relate two miracles of the Virgin associated with the celebration of the Feast of the Conception. A predella depicting Christ and the Apostles runs beneath the main scenes.

The altarpiece may be by a Venetian-born artist working in Zadar in Dalmatia.
