Leaving a painting to the Gallery

Bequests of paintings have greatly enhanced the National Gallery Collection throughout its history. Should you consider generously leaving a painting to the Gallery in your will, we would be pleased to advise you.

To find out more, please contact our Legacy & Appeals Manager, Stéphanie Gaillard, on 020 7747 5982 or email Stephanie.Gaillard@ng-london.org.uk.

Further information concerning other ways in which paintings may be acquired by UK collections can be found on the Arts Council website [external link]. This includes the Acceptance in Lieu (AIL) scheme, which enables taxpayers to transfer important works of art and other heritage objects into public ownership while paying Inheritance Tax, and Private Treaty Sales.
