Donate in memory
A gift to the Gallery can be a wonderful way to honour and remember a dear friend, relative or colleague.
A gift to the Gallery can be a wonderful way to honour and remember a dear friend, relative or colleague.
Making a donation in memory of a loved one is a meaningful way to celebrate their life and let their passion for art live on.
Your gift supports the National Gallery’s work to care for the nation’s collection, inspire the next generation of art lovers, and ensure that everyone can experience the joy and connection that art brings, now and into the future.
Each person remembered through a gift in their memory can be recorded in our Memorial Book, a lasting tribute on display both online and at the heart of the collection, in Annenberg Court.

There are many ways to make a donation in memory. You may wish to make a personal gift, arrange a collection at a funeral or memorial service, or invite others to contribute in celebration of someone who meant a great deal to you.
However you choose to give, your generosity will help the Gallery continue to safeguard and share great art with the widest possible public for generations to come.

We are extremely grateful for all donations, as every gift helps support the future of your National Gallery. Read about how in memory donations have helped the collection.
David Christopher Macklin Smart (1971–1978)
Margaret and Chris Smart made a generous donation in memory of their son, David Christopher Macklin Smart.
They chose to donate to the Gallery because they always loved the paintings and felt very privileged to have such a wonderful Gallery so accessible and free to all.
By donating in memory of their son, they have helped ensure access to the collection for future generations by supporting our education programme for children and adults of all ages and from all walks of life.
Thank you Margaret and Chris.
