Correspondence between Geoffrey Agnew and Martin Davies, Agnew quotes a price of £75,000 for the portrait. Letter to Sir William Williams of the National Art Collections Fund explaining that the Trustees unanimously agreed to the acquisition of the portrait and would like to apply for assistance in acquiring the work, which has been reduced from £100,000 so as to assist the Gallery as much as possible. Williams replies to this letter regretting to say that the Art Fund will not be able to help with the acquisition. Letters to various Trustees discussing the acquisition and the merits of the portrait. Note circulated to the Board confirming purchase of the portrait for £75,000 dated 21 July 1966. Two press releases included with covering letter to Geoffrey Agnew explaining that no details concerning provenance will be provided, other than to say that the picture was purchased from Agnew's.
