The theatre was built as part of the Sainsbury Wing, which opened in 1991. It is used to host a wide range of events including:
- Lectures
- Films
- Study days
There are also regular lunchtime talks every week on a wide range of topics.

Access
The theatre has capacity for an audience of around 300 people. You can access the theatre using a lift from all levels in the Sainsbury Wing.
