About

Inspired by our free exhibition, 'The Last Caravaggio', join us for a creative session, where we will explore techniques to convey dramatic gesture and evoke emotion and meaning.

Using the effects of 'chiaroscuro’ and a limited colour palette, this workshop will explore the use of light in composition to create an individual response to Caravaggio's work.

We will have a variety of media available, including graphite, Conté crayons, and water-soluble oil pastels, to compare the different techniques and effects.

Limited materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook and pencils.

You tutor

Joanna Conybeare is an artist and Gallery Educator who has worked in Primary and Secondary schools in London and the south coast as a teacher and subject lead for Art and Design. In her own artistic practice, she uses clay, porcelain and terracotta to explore the figure, enjoying the immediacy of the material that enables her to ‘draw’ three-dimensionally.
