About
Sourced founders Dr Anna Sulan Masing and Chloe-Rose Crabtree, investigate Canaletto's paintings and how they became tourist postcards of the day.
Using the paintings as a source, the tour will encourage discussion touching upon what people at the time thought of Venice; an exotic, wild, sophisticated destination. From 'Venice: A Regatta on the Grand Canal', which depicts the mystique of Venice when it was the trade point for Asian goods into Europe, to 'Venice: The Basin of San Marco on Ascension Day' and what Canaletto was trying to convey about the tourist during this time.
The tour will also consider Canaletto's interest in architecture, with the Sourced pair revealing what allowed for this architecture to exist (the wealth of trade and trade routes), and how this architecture created spaces for feasts and gatherings in society.
This tour will explore the Gallery using headsets.
