Annotated letters between Isabella Stewart Gardner and Bernard & Mary Berenson
|Date||7 Jan-18 May 1917|
Photocopies of eleven annotated and footnoted letters between Isabella Stewart Gardner and Mary & Bernard Berenson between 17 Jan-18 May 1917. They concern Gardner's attempt to purchase the 'Feast of the Gods' attributed to Bellini and Titian, then in the collection of the Dukes of Northumberland. The war taxes then in force meant that she was unable to purchase, and they had great difficulty communicating due to the disrupted post and cable services.
