Letter to Francis Davis

Tells the enquirer that the Director is currently on the continent and can therefore not respond to the offer of a picture. When he returns however, the letter will be shown to him at once. Points out that the Gallery already has some 'fine examples of Claude', implying that the offered picture may not be accepted for this reason. Finally tells the enquirer that Mr Wornum died two years ago.
