Correspondence with the Right Hon. Viscount Rothermere, his private secretary H. Morison and Colnaghis re the former's offer to present a triptych by Sassetta (then at the Musee des Beaux Arts, Budapest) and arrangements for its delivery to the Gallery; correspondence with Collin Brooks [Rothermere's agent] re Rothermere's decision to additionally offer works by Lorenzo Monaco and Metsu and whether the NG might choose other pictures from his collection in their place, such as 'The Coronation of the Virgin' attributed to Giotto or the Maestro del Bambino Vispo.
The file also includes correspondence with the Hon. Jasper Ridley (Trustee of Rothermere) and Herbert Cescinsky in 1941 re the whereabouts of the Sassetta, which they both believed was still in Budapest
