Description

Correspondence between Sotheby's and Hendy regarding Charles Wrightsman's decision to sell the portrait to the National Gallery after having first purchased it from Sotheby's himself. Cutting from The Times letters page criticizing decision to purchase the Goya, with response from Neil Maclaren presented as a press release. Board minutes and notes on arrangements for the acquisition and whether the portrait should be acquired by the National or Portrait Gallery. Copy of a Parliamentary question and answer on the subject of a government grant of £40,000 towards the total cost for the portrait, which was £140,000.
