A number of the loose letters in this group, as well as the mounted/hinged letters in NGA48/2/1, share a common source, likely the Pencarrow Collection, formed by Mary Ford, née Molesworth (1816-1910) and auctioned at Sotheby's, 8 December 1999. Letters from the Pencarrow Collection were acquired by the previous owner from Christopher Edwards, Roy Davids and Quaritch Limited. See acquisition file for details.
