Description
Letter (1 Apr 1884) from Briton Rivière to [Sir William] Agnew regarding a suggestion Agnew has made to include a quotation in the title for the painting 'St Bartholomew's Eve.' Rivière finds the idea "repugnant." Rivière discusses difficulties he has had with completing 'Actaeon' and his opinions of its saleability and title, refers to his resentment of a promise made to [Henry] Quilter and [Joseph] Duveen to sell it as 'The Enchanted Forest' and questions the existence of "clever buyers." Rivière refers to an offer Agnew has previously made for the copyright of 'Playfellows' and states that he is will not now refuse it if it still stands.
