Archive reference number
Letter (13 Jan 1889) from Briton Rivière to Sir William Agnew stating that he will be glad to ask his friends to subscribe to the Frank Holl memorial. Rivière approves of a limitation set on the subscription amounts due to the current finances of artists and believes that Holl would have subscribed for his fellow workers. He describes regular visits to Holl's studio and that Holl was always "depressed and doubtful about his works" despite his "remarkable power."
Rivière states how deeply he and his wife feel for Sir William and Mrs Agnew at the present time and that "these things are very hard to understand," possibly in reference to family troubles.
