Description
A private volume (for Messrs Thos. Agnew & Sons alone) containing D. Croal Thomson's reported visits to Boston, Chicago, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburg and Washington in Feb-Mar 1898. Thomson was an art dealer (the former director of the London branch (Goupil Gallery) of the French art dealers Boussod, Valadon & Cie, 1878-1896) who was employed by Thos. Agnew & Sons to promote the firm's reputation amongst American and Canadian collectors.
A index of 'painters', 'collectors, collections, etc', 'pictures' and 'miscellaneous' is given at the front, with the page numbers they appear on. The rest of the volume contains the cabelled reports made by D. Croal Thomson to Agnew's concerning his visits to and dealings with current and potential clients, as well as other art dealers. All prices are written in code (see 'Stock Books' description at NGA27/1 for key).
