Letter from Alfred de Rothschild to Turner

21 Jun 1904

Archive reference number

Explaining that he will not be able to attend the forthcoming meeting to debate whether or not to purchase the Titian. As Rothschild has not seen the Titian, he thinks he would be unable to vote on the issue in any case. Regrets that the picture could not have been sent to the Boardroom for inspection by all of the Trustees rather than kept at Chatham, especially as the picture will be costing £30,000 and is therefore a very significant potential investment for the National Gallery.
