Description

Letter from the Consul General of New Grenada to Colonel Thwaites advising that he had received eight paintings from Bogotá with instructions to offer them for sale to the National Gallery. These comprised four equestrian paintings by Antonio Vazquez - 'St George Killing the Dragon', 'St James', 'King Ferdinand Receiving the Keys of Seville' and 'The Bold Hunter' - and four paintings by Velazquez representing St Brigid, St Mary Magdalene, St Mary Egyptian and the Infant Jesus extracting a thorn. The offer was declined
