Description
The railings are still in situ in front of the National Gallery. The view was taken after the statue of George Washington was placed on the East Lawn in 1921 and before the statue of James II by Grinling Gibbons was placed on the West Lawn in 1948. The old lamps at the sides of the public stairs have been removed. A sign "Public Entrance" is displayed beneath the portico. Photograph: NG neg. M1102
