About

On the occasion of our exhibition, ‘José María Velasco: A View of Mexico', the author of ‘The Last Emperor of Mexico: A Disaster in the New World’, Edward Shawcross tells the story of how a hubristic Archduke became the Emperor of Mexico. Backdropped by Edouard Manet’s ‘The Execution of Maximilian’, Shawcross uncovers the tragic results and pivotal historical consequences for Europe and America, which would be felt into the 20th century and beyond.

Why not take advantage of our Pay What You Wish scheme to see ‘José María Velasco: A View of Mexico' on the same day?
