Celebrating the birth of Rembrandt, join this tour and explore the works of the greatest Dutch painter, draftsman and etcher of the 17th century.
Born in Leiden, he settled in Amsterdam, then the greatest port city in northern Europe, where he developed a thriving studio. His very personal, subjective and moving treatment of religious subjects and portraits, including many self portraits, reflects his intense study of human nature and human emotions.
Look closely at his compelling contrasts of light and shade, ability to create a strong sense of atmosphere and drama and mastery of texture; all techniques that have made him one of the most profound and touching painters of the human condition. The tour will focus on some of his major works and will also shed light on his sources, his inner circle and his talented students.
