Master of the Clarisse (possibly Rinaldo da Siena)

documented 1274 - 1281

The Clarisse Master is an anonymous painter so-called after a painting of the 'Virgin and Child Enthroned' now in the Convent of the Clarisse (Poor Clares) in Siena. He was active in the last third of the 13th century when the influence of Byzantine icons was strong on Sienese painting.
