In the early 1960s, Davies was approached to act as an advisor on an updated translation of Friedlander's Early Netherlandish Pictures (ENP). There are 14 volumes of ENP (each concerning various painters), which were published gradually between 1967-1977. Davies continued to work in his advisory capacity to the translator (Heinz Norden) until his retirement in 1973.
