Cantopher puts forward once again his theory that Lawrence had Reynolds’s painting repaired and sent his own copy as a replacement to the 1813 Exhibition at the British Institution. Kay responds that he has just seen the original Reynolds painting of Philppe Égalité at Buckingham Palace and that there is no doubt as to its authenticity.
