Informing him that the Gallery does not lend pictures for the purpose of temporary exhibition elsewhere. The picture he mentioned, Cruikshank's 'The Triumph of Bacchus' [transferred to the Tate and now entitled 'The Worship of Bacchus'] has been permanently lent to the Corporation of Bradford under the National Gallery Loan Act of 1883 and is unable to be removed for the purpose he suggests.
