Description
Letters from W. Maxted to Burton offering for sale 'The Triumph of Bacchus' by Gulio Romano, 'Portrait of the Bal[word illegible] of Brunswick by Lucas Cranach, and a 'Self portrait' by Franz Mieris. Maxted was also in possession of 'Landcape with cows drinking' by Gainsborough and 'Portrait of E. Burke' by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The offer was declined. A later letter offers 'La Columbine' by Leonardo da Vinci for sale. The painting was viewed by the Board and the file includes the receipt for the picture being retruned
