Description

Photograph of a watercolour by Henry Edward Tidmarsh wash and bodycolour. 180 x 160 mm. Guildhall Library W2/TRA 98272. Exhibited in 'Palaces of Art: Art Galleries in Britain 1790-1990' Dulwich and National Gallery of Scotland 1991-92'. As rebuilt in 1860 by Pennethorne before the complete reconstruction by Sir John Taylor in 1887. The steps lead to the east wing of the Wilkins building. On the right is the balustrade for the staircase to the basement, with the surviving rail. 'A Landscape, Gordale Scar, Yorkshire' by James Ward, purchased in 1878 (NG1043, Tate N01043) hangs on the left. Copy photograph: Guildhall Library. NG neg. M519/25A.
