Description

Sir Claude Phillips bequeathed a number of paintings to the National Gallery, together with £200 to be divided between the Gallery Warders and what his Will described as Gallery 'police'. Those paintings bequeathed by Phillips that became part of the permanent collection were: 'Lamentation over the body of Christ' by Dossi, 'A female saint' by Dossi, 'Saint Bonaventure' by Pordenone, 'Saint Louis of Toulouse' by Pordenone, 'Madonna and Child with the infant Baptist' by Andrea and Raffaello del Brescianino, 'Interior of a Gothic Church' by Steenwyck the Younger, 'The toilet of Bathsheba' in the style of Luca Giordano and 'Diana and Callisto' by Paul Bril.
