Maurice-Quentin de La Tour
1704 - 1788
La Tour was born in St-Quentin. He worked in Paris as a pastel portraitist. His choice in this medium may have been affected by the success of the pastellist Rosalba Carriera who visited Paris in 1719-20. La Tour's portraits were very popular and he had sitters from all levels of society.
