Packing: A Case Study

Abstract

The article sets out the requirements for satisfactory packing cases for paintings. A statistical survey of painting frame sizes within the National Gallery is given to assess packing case standard sizes. Details of various tests on designs of packing cases are given, including recordings carried out on A Dead Soldier during transportation from Washington to London.
