Analyses of Paint Media

Abstract

Continues a series of articles summarising the results of media analyses of paintings in the National Gallery, London. Both gas chromatographic and combined gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy are used. Media from 15 paintings are included, by the artists Bordon, Crivelli, Palma Vecchio, Solar, Tura, Zoppo, Campin, Hoogstraten, Greuze, Kolbke, Gainsborough, Reynolds, and Van Gogh. Among the identified media are walnut oil, egg, egg and wax, linseed oil, poppy oil, and oil and resin mixes.
