Efforts centre on preventing the export of the picture and subsequently attempting to purchase the picture. Papers from the Reviewing Committee on the export of works of art including a statement of opposition to the export from Martin Davies, in his capacity as expert advisor to the Department of Trade and Industry. Correspondence concerning the picture's status after its purchase by the Getty Museum, the National Gallery is required to state that the Titian is held on behalf of the Getty. Correspondence with the Daily Telegraph regarding an editorial in the paper that criticised the campaign on 31 Dec 1971. Letters confirming that the amount needed for acquisition has been raised.
