Overview
Commissioned from the artists Peter Kuhfeld and Paul S Benney, the Coronation State Portraits were unveiled at the National Gallery on 6 May 2025. This was the second anniversary of the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. From July, the portraits will be on display in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace.
Coronation State Portraits follow a traditional format. They depict the monarch in coronation robes, accompanied by the symbols of rule, most importantly the Crown.
King Charles III is the Royal Patron of the National Gallery. Works on loan from the Royal Collection for C C Land: The Wonder of Art include Mantegna’s Triumphs of Caesar in room 12 as well as paintings by Jacopo Tintoretto, Orazio Gentileschi and Anthony van Dyck in room 31, Charles I and Henrietta Maria: A Royal Collection 1625–1649.
