Venetian Masks
We noticed that some people in the painting are wearing masks. We researched different Venetian mask designs and decided to make our own. We used papier-mâché to make the masks and decorated them with paint and materials brought in from home.

Regatta Costumes
One pupil asked, 'Why are the ladies wearing such elaborate dresses?' So we researched 17th-century Italian fashions and noticed the fancy patterns and frills. We carefully folded and coiled paper to make miniature dresses before using recycled materials to make a full-sized version.

Venetian Masks
Our students were fascinated by the masks in the painting. This led us to research different types of Venetian carnival masks. We used ink to create a watery appearance inspired by the canals and learned running stitch to attach our work together.
Stockbridge Primary and Pre-School, Hampshire, ages 6–8
Dragon Venetian Masks
The decorated boats in the painting reminded us of dragons. We also noticed the Venetian masks, so we decided to make Dragon Venetian Masks! We included lots of detail in our designs and shaped papier-mâché around balloons to make them.
