Queer art histories
About
Join Tilly Scantlebury this Pride Month, as we explore the way in which artists have used traditional art historical representation for decidedly queer ends.
Through key case studies and close visual analysis, we’ll ask, what’s at stake in the tactics of each artist - from Holbein to Catherine Opie, Titian to Mickalene Thomas - and what possibilities emerge from putting queer theory into conversation with the history of art?
After the talk, we'll move into the galleries to discuss how queer methodologies can be put into action.
