This view is probably from a rooftop just below the Spanish Quarter in Naples, looking south-east towards the hills of the Sorrento peninsula across the Bay of Naples. Dunouy seems to have taken particular delight in depicting the contrast between the urban and the natural scenery, through subtle lighting effects and the use of suggestive shapes in the architecture and the rolling hills.
