One student chose to write a scheme of work around Turner's 'Calais Pier'.
'It is a painting that invites you to walk into it. It makes you want to feel and taste the spray of the waves as they crash against and over the pier.'
She made curriculum links to many QCA schemes of work (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority non-mandatory teaching models) including 'Mother Nature', 'Viewpoints', 'Journeys' and 'People in Action'.
With her year 3 class she studied the effects of wind direction and weather on the local environment, linking it to the National Curriculum programme of study for science 'Forces and motion'.
They made oil pastel pictures which capture different dramatic weather conditions, and wrote poems inspired by the stormy sea.
Seas
Seas that are strong,
Seas that are rough,
Seas that are stormy,
Seas that are screechy,
Seas that are smooth,
Seas that are salty,
Seas that are sobbing.
