Description
Thanks her for her letter of recommendation on behalf of the sculptor {John Edward] Carew but explains that the usual procedure for appointing an artist to work in the new Houses of Westminster is through 'their general reputation or by submitting specimens of their ability in the Exhibitions that take place in Westminster Hall'. He acknowledges that Carew's name is known to the Committee and that the sculptor showed in one of the public exhibitions for the mural competitions last year. He notes he is in no position to advocate for the sculptor but that she 'or any friend of Mr Carew' is free to write a letter that Eastlake will lay before the Committee.
