In response to being asked to report on what arrangements could be adopted to obviate the annual closing of the Gallery for five weeks in the Autumn for cleaning and staff furloughs, and giving suggestions that large galleries, or two smaller galleries, at a time be cleaned leaving the rest accessible to the public, and that by an addition to the staff, that each may obtain a leave of absence in turn from Mar [Apr crossed out] to Oct without diminishing the number on duty, necessitating the appointment of an additional Curator, Assistant Porter and Housemaid at a cost of £200 annually. [Includes a pencil note that the Memorandum was enclosed to Lord Fred Cavendish by the Director].
