Letters from Henry L. Phillips to the Keeper of the National Gallery offering for sale a painting of 'Venus' by Titian, valued at £10,000. Subsequent letter addressed to Sir Frederic Burton offering the painting for sale for £5000-10,000. The painting had previously been examined by Thomas Uwins in 1855 and he encloses a copy of his letter. Two subsequent letters addressed to Charles Locke Eastlake speaking of the painting's condition and organising the painting's delivery to the Gallery and to Horace Buttery for inspection. The offer was declined.
