Correspondence regarding the offer of sale of 'Apollo and Marsyas' by Raphael, in the posession of Mr Morris Moore. Includes letters from [illegible] and E. Blood to Sir Frederic Burton referencing a painting by Raphael in the posession of Mr Morris Moore in Rome and valued at £12,000 and letters from Mrs Rose Morris Moore to Sir Frederic Burton concerning the painting belonging to her husband. She encloses a document providing details of the painting. The offer was declined.
[The painting was previously attributed to Raphael, but is now correctly identified as a work by Pietro Perugino, specifically his c.1483 painting of Apollo and Daphnis, also known as Apollo and Marsyas. The painting is currently cataloged as RF 370 at the Louvre.]
