Exhibition: British war artists [1 Jul 1940-7 May 1945]

Archive reference number

The exhibition, organised by the War Artists' Advisory Committee, was ongoing throughout the Second World War. Heavy air raids forced the exhibition to be suspended from 11 Oct-1 Nov 1940 and urgent roof repairs closed it from 30 Jun-5 Jul 1941. There are no files for this exhibition at the National Gallery. Records of the War Artists' Advisory Committee exhibitions are held in the Imperial War Museum's Art Department (ref. GP/46).
