Photograph of a painting by Edward Richard Taylor signed and dated 1883. oil on canvas. 79.3 x 121.8 cm. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Exhibited at the Royal Academy 1883 (104); "Palaces of Art: Art Galleries in Britain 1790-1990" exhibition Dulwich and National Gallery of Scotland 1991-92 (C11). See Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery catalogue, 1987 p. 24. 'The Battle of Trafalgar as seen from the mizen starboard shrouds of the Victory' by Turner (NG480, Tate N00480) hung in the National Gallery between 1856 and 1910. Taylor's picture probably shows the south-east corner of Room VI (vestibule) with NG480 in the centre wall (see H. Blackburn, 'Pictorial Notes in the National Gallery, The British School', 1877 p.60.) 'Mrs Siddons' by Gainsborough (NG683) is hanging in what was probably Room VII (45) on the East Wall (op. cit. p71). Hanging of other pictures was altered between 1877 and 1883.
