Description
Letter to Carmen Gronau of Sotheby's from Philip Hendy asking for details of how much the Crucifix will cost. Notes on the Crucifix sent to William Williams of the National Art Collections Fund, note concerning the picture's provenance circulated to the Board. Correspondence between various Trustees and Hendy arranging a special Board meeting on 8 April, 1965, in order to examine the Crucifix for a second time. The Crucifix is eventually purchased for £105,000 with £5000 contributed by the NACF. Letter to Doctor E.S. de Beer thanking him for his contribution of £2000 towards the acquisition. Letter to William Williams thanking him for the NACF contribution. Seperate group of letters detailing arrangements for publishing a report into the acquisition for the NACF. Photocopy of a letter from Professor Francesco Villari to Neil McGregor in 1992, suggesting an exhibition of the National Gallery Crucifix with the similar Crucifix owned by the Italian Cultural Institute.
