Observations by Martin Davies (Keeper) on the Courbet and its value as a potential acquisition, Davies is generally in favour of the picture. Letter from [Hendy] to Lord Robbins (Chairman) adding further views on the potential acquisition. Example letter to all Trustees regarding plans for the attempt at acquiring the picture, including the suggestion that the picture is considered a Lane replacement so as to gain funding. Letters from Trustees to Robbins giving their opinions on the acquisition, all largely in favour of buying the picture. Notes on the picture, giving details of its composition and history. Formal request to K.E. Couzens (Treasury) for a government grant to assist acquisition. Letter from Couzens confirming a government grant for £41,000 towards the total cost of £62,000 dated 2 July 1964. Correspondence with Sotheby's regarding anonymous £2,500 contribution towards the acquisition.
