Collections expertise

We aim to build and share new skills, research, and knowledge to care for our collections

  • To facilitate discussion around collection interpretation, display, and learning programmes to enable public engagement
  • To support the sharing of specialist knowledge and resources in the research and conservation of paintings, especially historical European art

Interdisciplinary exchange

We aim to develop new practices and approaches to interpretation and co-creation

  • Expanded network of creative partners and organisations of expertise to collaborate and exchange knowledge and ideas
  • Partnerships that extend the understanding and reach of painting collections

Diversifying and supporting the workforce

We aim to make meaningful connections with a wider network of organisations which deal with other types of works of art in addition to paintings

  • Through research and surveys, we aim to understand better and address the needs of those in the field
  • In response to need, we will develop training opportunities and skill sharing initiatives highlighting sector best practice or cross-sector innovation
  • We aim to make some travel bursaries available to members in the future

Public Exchange

We aim to advocate and make available case-studies and best practise in the sector, including those that are diversifying collection narratives and decolonisation initiatives, to the widest possible audience.

Skills and Knowledge exchange

We aim to share more compelling and relevant stories about art collections, reflecting diverse contemporary perspectives which support improved social outcomes and learning opportunities.

  • We host an annual in-person networking and exchange event (delivered in partnership with member organisations)
  • We host specialist training opportunities
