We are resuming our onsite workshops from September 2021.

EYFS and KS1: Sculpting stories

First, a storyteller will take pupils for a walk through a specially chosen landscape painting through storytelling and object handling.

Then, pupils respond by making their own sculptures to take home, developing communication, creativity and dexterity.

Duration: 2 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

EYFS and KS1: Mini masterpieces

Sing, sway and jump into a painting with a musical story.

Pupils will be given the tools and techniques to create their own mini masterpiece.

Duration: 2 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

KS1 and KS2: Every picture tells a story

Discover the hidden story behind a series of paintings and become a part of it.

With the help of an actor, this drama and literacy session helps pupils build their own responses and ideas, developing story building, communication and creativity.

Duration: 2 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

KS1 and KS2: What can paintings tell us about drawing?

Pupils learn to see the drawing behind the painting using traditional tools and techniques including pen and ink, chalk and carbon paper to develop an understanding of line, tone and perspective.

Duration: 3.5 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

KS1 and KS2: Colour and light

See paintings in a new light by learning how artists make and use colour.

Pupils will create their own painting by being taught how to mix primary colours into a wide range of tones.

Duration: 3.5 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

KS2: Messengers

Explore colour, light and shape.

Pupils will look at Bridget Riley's wall painting, Messengers, and connected works, experimenting with different ways of looking, drawing and using colour.

The session could be a good starting point for projects back in the classroom.

Duration: 1.5 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)

KS1: Story storms – Outreach

A knight, a dragon and a princess tumble into a swirl of your own imagination.

Uncover the story of Saint George, create a dragon part-by-part, and paint it into a story storm.

Lively questioning and discussion will encourage learners to express their own ideas, justify their choices and develop their creativity.

Duration: 1.5 hours

KS2: Monet and architecture – Outreach

Monet captured a changing world with light, colour and a style all of his own.

Pupils will explore the architecture that shapes their life and learn how to use Monet’s techniques to create an artwork describing a place that’s important to them.

Duration: 2 hours

Book: Please request an online booking form via schoolbookings@ng-london.org.uk at least six weeks (and up to one term) in advance.

Days: Weekdays (term time only)

  • We require a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of date and a time frame for your visit to be provided in the booking form
  • For each group of 1030 pupils, we require the lead teacher’s name, email address and mobile number
  • We cannot guarantee that your group will see a certain painting or artist, as all paintings and rooms are subject to availability
  • Please book your Gallery session before you book transport

All of the above themes can be adapted for SEND groups. Please contact us for more information about how we can meet your group’s needs.

We recommend a maximum group size of 10. 

Please specify in the booking form if your students have special or additional needs.

Please let us know 21 days prior to your session if you need to cancel. Late cancellations will incur a charge.

Workshops are currently not offered for overseas groups.
