Led by artists, our practical workshops aim to develop children's skills in communication, creativity and dexterity.

EYFS to Key Stage 1

Mini masterpieces - FULLY BOOKED
Time
2 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)
Suitable for: EYFS, KS1
Fully booked for this school year
Sing, sway and jump into a painting with a musical story.

Pupils will be given the tools and techniques to create their own mini masterpiece.

This workshop can also be delivered online.
Sculpting stories - FULLY BOOKED
Time
2 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)
Suitable for: EYFS, KS1

First, a storyteller will take pupils for a walk through a specially chosen landscape painting through storytelling and object handling.

Then, pupils respond by making their own sculptures to take home, developing communication, creativity and dexterity.

Key Stages 1-2

Colour and light - FULLY BOOKED

See paintings in a new light by learning how artists make and use colour.

Pupils will create their own painting by being taught how to mix primary colours into a wide range of tones.

Every picture tells a story - FULLY BOOKED

Discover the hidden story behind a series of paintings and become a part of it.

With the help of an actor, this drama and literacy session helps pupils build their own responses and ideas, developing story building, communication and creativity.

Explore colour, light and shape in this 90-minute practical workshop which will be tailored to your key stage.

Pupils will look at Bridget Riley's wall painting,...
Messengers, and connected works, experimenting with different ways of looking, drawing and using colour.

The session could be a good starting point for projects back in the classroom.

What can paintings tell us about drawing? - FULLY BOOKED
Time
3.5 hours (including use of lunch room for 30 minutes)
Suitable for: KS1, KS2
Fully booked for this school year
Pupils learn to see the drawing behind the painting using traditional tools and techniques including pen and ink, chalk and carbon paper to develop an understanding of line, tone and perspective.

This workshop can also be delivered online.
  • We require a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of date and a time frame for your visit to be provided in the booking form
  • For each group of 1030 pupils, we require the lead teacher’s name, email address and mobile number
  • We cannot guarantee that your group will see a certain painting or artist, as all paintings and rooms are subject to availability
  • Please book your Gallery session before you book transport

You can book more than one group in a single booking request. Groups can differ by key stage, theme, date and time of their visit. There is a maximum of 4 groups per date.

All of the above themes can be adapted for SEND groups, although you may be interested in our 'Explore it!' and 'Sense it!' multisensory sessions, which are especially designed for SEND groups, and allow for flexibility and co-planning with group leaders. 

Please contact us for more information about how we can meet your group’s needs. We recommend a maximum group size of 10.

Please let us know 21 days prior to your session. Cancellations made with less than 21 days’ notice and no-shows will incur a charge.
