After her lecture in the Pigott Theatre, hear Dr Elizabeth Goldring in conversation with Matthew Morgan. They will discuss what went on behind the scenes as Goldring wrote her book, 'Holbein: Renaissance Master'.
Goldring reveals anecdotes relating to the several years of research that went into her writing. Hear how the process took her to many places in England, the US and Europe – from the eerie basement tunnels of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York – to studying Holbein's drawings in the Royal Library and his paintings in the State Apartments at Windsor Castle.
Together Morgan and Goldring will also explore the challenges Goldring faced of trying to access research materials when libraries and museums were closed during the pandemic. Goldring will also discuss the ways in which writing this book during a global pandemic offered her a new perspective on the era in which Holbein lived, when plague and pestilence were constant threats to him and his contemporaries.
There will be an opportunity to purchase copies of the book and to have them signed.
