About

Belle Smith leads the second of a four-part series diving into music in art.

In this episode, Smith looks at secular music performed at the Italian courts during the 15th and 16th centuries. The Italian courts had an audience of highly educated ruling classes who would themselves have participated in courtly concerts and were interested in Renaissance theories of harmony and the senses. They were, of course, also patrons of the visual arts and together with Smith, the talk will look at images that both convey actual performance and ideas relating to music.
