About

The impressive might and elegant beauty of horses have captivated humans for millennia.

Since their first depictions on the walls of caves, horses have proved to be a popular and enduring subject for artists who have sought to capture the majesty of these handsome creatures. Taking George Stubbs’ painting of the racehorse Scrub as a starting point, this lecture reveals why horses continue to fascinate.

Chiedza Mhondoro, Assistant Curator, British Art at Tate Britain, builds upon the ideas presented in her book, ‘Horses in Art’ at this online event.

Celebrate the beauty and complexity of horses and our relationship with these majestic animals at this online Members’ talk.

You can also join Chiedza in-person at our panel conversation 'Equine art'.
