About

Join us in the Supporters’ House for a creative pause with this experimental drawing workshop. Well-Crafted’s Alexandra Lunn will guide you through mark-making techniques inspired by our current exhibition 'Wright of Derby: From the Shadows' and Joseph Wright 'of Derby's' use of dramatic contrast between light and dark.

Alexandra will begin by leading a grounding exercise to help you settle into the space, before exploring expressive mark-making, using guided prompts to encourage free movement on the paper and fresh visual ideas.

The workshop will focus on layered drawing, playing with repetition, pattern, and print culture. Alexandra will encourage you to use these meditative processes to build depth, rhythm, and a sense of the sublime in your work.

You are encouraged to visit the Wright of Derby: From the Shadows exhibition in the Sunley Room beforehand to get a rounded and full experience in this workshop. No experience is necessary - you are welcome to just turn up!

Your Host

Since founding Well–Crafted in 2018, Alexandra Lunn has combined her expertise in branding, design, and storytelling to create workshops that inspire creativity and empower people to try something new. Together with a diverse team of collaborators, she helps participants discover their 'aha' moments through hands-on, skill-building experiences.

Well–Crafted provides fully hosted workshops: from lino-cutting to clay and painting, that promote mindfulness, reduce stress, and encourage stronger personal and professional connections. Designed to boost connection, enrich culture, and complement exhibitions and events, tailored sessions give people a space to reconnect with themselves and the artwork while making something they’re proud of.
